- 0:03that actually mean we screen against hundreds of restricted
- 0:07ingredients and then we also look at industrial processing
- 0:10which isn't something that you can see from looking at the
- 0:13package. Research shows ultra processing can actually change
- 0:17a food's molecular structure, reducing its nutritional value
- 0:20and impacting digestion. It can also add chemicals that
- 0:24aren't required to appear on the ingredient label that
- 0:26processing can both add harmful compounds and it can remove
- 0:30beneficial compounds and also ultra process foods can have
- 0:34contaminants from the packaging that's a pretty strong recipe
- 0:37for bad health outcomes.
- 0:39But using less processed whole ingredients can be pricey on
- 0:42average non you get foods are 2 to 3 times more expensive than
- 0:46ultra processed ones.
The seal's own people say at 1:17 that half of what they check “isn't something that you can see from looking at the package.” The ingredient screen I can hold up against a label. The processing part I'd be taking on trust, for food the segment says costs two to three times as much, so before our department put a seal like this in anything we hand out, I'd want to read how that audit works.
